December 2017 Announcements

THE RISE AND SHINE BIBLE STUDY will be held October 8th through December 10th from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Please join us as Jake Jones leads us in a study of the books of Daniel, Hosea, Joel Amos and the birth of Jesus Christ.  

Central Jersey Enrichment Center (CJEC),  pre-school program, daycare which runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Before care and after-care for school-age children, which includes homework help. SAT prep classes to help our high school students. September-May, noon-2 p.m., second Thursday of the month at Kingston Presbyterian Church.  Women's Horizon Bible Study - "Cloud Of Witnesses: The Community Of Christ In Hebrews". All ladies of the Presbytery are invited. Rev. Sharyl Dixon will lead this year's study. An overview will be offered on September 9th from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Kingston Parish House. Lesson 1 begins September 14th. For more information or to order a book, please call the Kingston Church at 609-921-8895. 

December 3, 3:00 p.m., the SPC Chapel Choir and the Order of the Eastern Star Grand Choir will present a beautiful Christmas Cantata entitled, "The Christmas Promise". 

December 3, following the Cantata, The Presbyterian Women(PW) will be assisting with the refreshments following the Cantata. Donations of cookies, pastries, brownies and cupcakes are greatly appreciated. Donations can be brought to the kitchen before or after worship service. 

The Outreach Commission will be putting up an "Angel Tree" in the Narthex and the congregation will have the opportunity to help make the holidays brighter for some of our area teenagers and young adults. The tree will include gift ideas (around or under $30) for 16 residents, ages 13-21, of Visions and Pathways. 

December 7, 2:00 p.m., The Ruth Circle will meet in the Nursery. All women are welcome to come. Rev. Culley will lead us in Lesson 4 of the Horizons Bible Study, "Cloud Of Witnesses: The Community Of Christ In Hebrews". For more information, please call the church office, 732-249-8674. 

December 8, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Church Women United will hold their Human Rights, World Community Day and Pre-Christmas Celebrations at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, (Lower Level Fellowship Hall) 771 Somerset Street in Somerset. The theme is "Kindling New Fires for Peace and Hope". The cost of the Christmas Celebration lunch is $9 (no covered dishes this year.) Please bring a gift from the wish list for children at the Franklin House. 

December 15, 6-8 p.m., All Women Are Invited To The PW Cookie Time at the home of Velma Gates, 19 Tripplet Road. Please join us at this annual fun holiday event and bring 2-3 dozen small cookies, homemade if possible and without nuts or peanut butter. As in the past, the Tuesday Chancel Women will decorate coffee cans and then during the party we will fill them with cookies for the Center for Great Expectations and for the residents at Visions and Pathways (formally called the Somerset Home for Temporarily Dis placed Children). During the evening there will also be games, light refreshments, fun and fellowship. 

December 15 & 22, 5 p.m.-8 p.m., During December there are two opportunities to support the church while enjoying a meal from Wendy's Restaurant on Easton Avenue. Fifteen percent of  these Wendy's Fundraiser sales will go to SPC during those hours. When you order, please mention the fundraiser for Somerset Presbyterian Church! Thank you! 

January 13, 10:30 a.m., The Presbyterian Women of the New Brunswick Presbytery will hold a Winter Luncheon right here at SPC. The featured speaker is Tony Perry, and award-winning Bible Study Teacher, Author and Food Educator. The cost is $10 and we will have a sign-up sheet for reservations closer to the event.
